The Beatnigs – Television

San Fransisco’s The Beatnigs were a nice mix of The Black Poets, Gil Scott Heron, Jim Thirlwell, and Einstürzende Neubauten. Yes, that’s right people! Their self-titled debut album (1988) was sadly their only long player, but it did give us this 80’s classic, titled ‘Television’. The Beatnigs Michael Franti went on to release this song again with his next project, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy (with another former Beatnig, Rono Tse), though it was smoothed out and lacked the bite of the original.
