Henry Cow – Living In The Heart Of the Beast

Dark and complex prog from Cambridge’s Henry Cow, who teamed up with Slapp Happy for this album*. The team up meant that the devilish vocals of Dagmar Krause are added to the mix, which paved the way for acts such as Art Bears and News From Babel; one can definitely see the birth of those bands on this track (and album). There’s no denying the ‘prog’ element, as there are time changes galore, and this is definitely music played by virtuosos. Not to everyones taste, however, it is most certainly prog from the outer reaches; further out that King Crimson for sure. This is from the 1975 album ‘In Praise Of Learning’, where they did another ‘sock’ cover.

*they did another album ‘Desperate Straights’ together as well, and that one was credited to Henry Cow & Slapp Happy.
